It all started with a question when I was young about why people did what they did and blossomed into a comprehensive theory with surprising predictive power. The theory developed and many things I never expected to understand emerged from the subsequent research. I grew up under during the popularization of DNA and watched at everything was dogmatically explained by “it’s in your genetic code,” but after all the genes had successfully been sequenced and proteins identified, for many things that were toted as genetic, there were no genetic causes. Even without a gene or mechanism of action to point at showing a deviation from “normal”, many things were labeled as “disorders” such as ADHD and Asperger’s. That is one of the greatest things I have found so far, is not only generally what motivates people, but why we are different, and how personality preferences, which are objectively no greater nor worse than any others, have grown to have a negative stigma. I am excited about how much insight and understanding is yet to come in differences in personality, and how that will change the world.
